Turtle Embryos Communicate To
Synchronize Hatching!
Turtles communicate with their siblings while they are still in their shells, buried under the soil, in order to coordinate when they hatch! This is a complicated feat, since some eggs are laid low in the nest, where it’s cooler, and others are laid in the upper layers which are closer to the sun, so they develop at different rates. “The group environment of a nest strongly supports the development of adaptive communication mechanisms between siblings and the evolution of environmentally cued hatching.”

Great Apes Can Have A Midlife Crisis Too
A study of great apes in captivity shows that the animals’ sense of well-being bottoms out in middle age, before rebounding in old age. The survey covered four criteria: the animals’ overall mood; how much pleasure they got out of socializing; their success in achieving goals such as obtaining food and objects they desire; and how happy the keeper would be if he or she were that animal for a week.
Lost Parrot Provides His Name And Address To Rescuers And Goes Home!
Yosuke was a lost parrot that was picked up by the police in Tokyo. Though he didn’t say anything to the cops, when they transferred him to the care of a local vet clinic he sang like a bird - by providing them with his full name and address! “I’m Mr. Yosuke Nakamura,” said Yosuke. The staff checked out the contact information he provided and found that it was indeed his home!
Seagull Thief Prefers Doritos Chips In Tangy Cheese Flavor!
As the shop assistant put it, “He’s got it down to a fine art. He waits until there are no customers around and I’m standing behind the till, then he raids the place.” (note that he prefers Tangy Cheese flavor rather than the crisps closer to the door…)
Sam became so popular, and the locals found his thievery so hilarious, that the locals started paying for the chips he stole so that the store wouldn’t be tempted to try to stop him. Kudos to you, locals! :)
